MBANDAKA, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO APRIL 15: Unidentified people arrive with good and animals on a crowded homemade boat on April 15, 2006 in the port in Mbandaka, Congo, DRC. The port is a big trading point, and about 700 kilometers from the capital Kinshasa. Many villagers come here to trade goods. The Congo River is a lifeline for millions of people, who depend on it for transport and trade. Boats often capsize and many people drown as most of them cannot swim. Congo is planning to hold general elections by July 2006, the first democratic elections in forty years. (Photo by Per-Anders Pettersson).
