About 72 white rhinos were sold for an average price of 139.000 rands. Hluhluwe has the most successful rhino program in the world, and was started about one hundred years ago when there were less than a hundred rhinos left on the entire African continent. Around 1960, when the rhino population had recovered, it became necessary to control the amount of animals. They started to move animals to other areas and sell it to parks and game lodges all over the world..The auction took in almost fifteen million rands, which will be used for wildlife conservation. .©Per-Anders Pettersson/iAfrika Photos.
