The lodge is community owned by a village nearby called Lekgophung. All the employees at the lodge come from the village. The reserve was claimed in 1991 and over eight thousand animals were moved to the reserve during a period of six years. Its bordering Botswana, and its about 3 hours drive from Johannesburg.
