These women are suffering from Goiter, the enlargement of the thyroid gland, due to the shortage of Iodine in food. Most people in DRC eat cassava, which is not high in Iodine. Due to the recent civil war, Congo has the worst humanitarian crisis since World War 2. About four million people have died of treatable diseases.
