NDOLA, ZAMBIA MARCH 26: Zambian workers operate the few spinning machines still operating in Makuba Textiles on March 26, 2007 in Ndola, Zambia. Most factories in the area have closed down due to cheap Chinese imports. The textile industry was the second biggest employer in Zambia before factories had to shut down or downsize. Tens of thousands of Chinese has come to Africa the last years to work in infrastructure projects and businesses. Chinese companies are often the lowest bidders for contracts, pricing out the more expensive European companies. The Chinese people often live where they work and rarely interact with the local population. Most Chinese don't speak English and they are mostly staying in the compounds cooking their Chinese food, and watching Chinese Television and DVDs. .(Photo by Per-Anders Pettersson)....
