Unidentified Xhosa boys greets people driving in a National highway as they are going trough a traditional manhood ceremony on July 19, 2001 in Mdantsane, South Africa. The ceremony lasts for about six weeks starting with a circumcision. The wound has to be healed in a natural way, and elders guide the boys during the ceremony, which is to prepare them for adulthood. Former South African president Nelson Mandela went trough the ceremony when he was young. (Photo by: Per-Anders Pettersson)
