People enjoy themselves at the central square in Kashgar, China. Nearby is the Idkah Mosque, the largest one in China. It was built in 1442. Kashgar is the far western city in the Xinjian Province and it was an important stop on the old Silk Road and a focus in the intrigues of the "Great Game". The region is mostly Muslim and very conservative. (Photo by: Per-Anders Pettersson)
