Loisevale is a poor and destitute black township where unemployment is high and a number of social problems exist including domestic violence and alcohol abuse. Baby Thsepang, an eight-month old baby, was raped by her father in a house on this street in October 2001. The baby rape shocked the country. South Africa is struggling with an increasing number of rapes and sexual abuse of young children. In addition, the country has the highest number of rapes in the world.
