AMANI NATURE RESERVE, TANZANIA - NOVEMBER 14: Veroniqa Simon cooks on her environmentally safe stove built by herself on November 14, 2009 in Amani Nature Reserve, Tanzania. Locals have worked since 2004 to preserve this unique rainforest together with Tanzania Forest Conservation Group. The main purpose has been to preserve the rich biological life in the forest and to stop illegal logging and the cutting of trees by villagers for firewood. Many villagers has started income generating programs such as bee keeping, butterfly farms and different spices. Many women have especially been empowered by these projects such as Veroniqa Simon. She also farm fish and bees. Veroniqa has built around forty of these stoves for families around the village. (Photo by Per-Anders Pettersson)..
